Girls’ 1st XI Hockey v Priorsfield School, 15.11.2018

By Kevin Boniface, Head of Hockey

Traditionally a strong opposition across the age groups the Bedales side knew they would in for a tough game. However, the home side started really well, attacking with pace and getting players high up the pitch.

Within 5 minutes Captain Nancy Tier had put Bedales 1-0 up with rasping shot in to the bottom corner. Soon after this however the momentum of the game completely changed with Priorsfield dominating the attacking possession and causing plenty of trouble for the Bedales side.

Three well worked short corners and a good individual later the game had taken on a different perspective and at half time Priorsfield went in deservedly 4-1 to the good.

The half time team talked focused on the need to recognise the importance of retaining possession higher up the pitch and allowing ourselves to create goalscoring opportunities. Despite Priorsfield still holding plenty of attacking threat they were thwarted on a number of occasions by goalkeeper Becca Staring and full back Hannah Mazas.

At the other end of the pitch Bedales were now creating a more and more chances, much through the endeavour and clever running from Elsa Rymer. A break down the right hand channel from Charlotte Land and an accurate pass created an opportunity for Nancy to bag her second goal of the game.

A comeback at this stage seemed on the cards but a number of chances went begging and in the end Priorsfield deservedly ended up as winners. An exciting end to end game with plenty of goals.

U14 Girls’ Hockey v Priorsfield, 17.10.2018

By Chloe Nicklin, PE Teacher

Bedales have been working hard all week aiming to improve their positioning and passing.

This was most definitely achieved in their game against Priorsfield going 1-0 up in the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately, this lead was short lived and Priorsfield levelled going into half time.

Coco took a nasty hit to the knee in the first half and had to retired for the rest of the game. She played a vital role in defence, playing with high levels of composure and skill.

Bedales came out with a positive mindset in the second half taking the ball quickly and continuing to pass with precision and power. Lally, Katie and Zoe were integral to taking the ball up the pitch and passing into space for Kamaya, Anna and Eliza to run on to.

Unfortunately, even with superb defensive play from Maya, Bedales were unable to stop 3 goals from 3 fantastic short corners, taking the score to 4-1. However, Bedales fought back with Eliza gaining her first goal of the season. This brought the score to 4-2 with 2 minutes to spare.

Bedales were a pleasure to watch today. Their game play has significantly improved, demonstrating intelligence in their play as well as a clear improvement in playing as a team.

The final score was 4-2 to Priorsfield. MVP for the third week in a row was Kamaya – well done to Kamaya and well done to the rest of the team for a thrilling game.
